For too long, society has imposed narrow,

Speaker:

outdated definitions of what it means to be a successful

Speaker:

woman. But as we navigate the second

Speaker:

half of our lives, it's time to change those limiting

Speaker:

narratives and embrace a more empowering,

Speaker:

fulfilling vision of success that aligns with our

Speaker:

values, experiences, and aspirations.

Speaker:

Today, we're going to talk about rewriting

Speaker:

the rules of success.

Speaker:

Hey, friend. Ever feel like those old fashioned

Speaker:

ideas about aging just don't fit you? If you're ready

Speaker:

to own this incredible chapter with grace, style, and a touch of

Speaker:

sass, this is your space. Welcome to the aging with

Speaker:

grace and style podcast. I'm Valerie Hatcher, and I'm here

Speaker:

with empowering tips, inspiring stories, and a whole lot of

Speaker:

fun just for us, women over 50. So grab

Speaker:

your favorite beverage, turn up the volume, and let's get

Speaker:

started.

Speaker:

A few episodes back, episode 55,

Speaker:

we talked about how to love your aging body with

Speaker:

confidence. And just last week, on episode

Speaker:

56, we discussed personal style.

Speaker:

Today's episode is all about empowering you to

Speaker:

rewrite the rules of success. As we

Speaker:

age, our perspectives on what success means

Speaker:

can shift, and it's essential to embrace those

Speaker:

changes and define success on our own terms.

Speaker:

So what does that even mean? I'm sure most of us have

Speaker:

felt that Aging of, am I doing this right? Or

Speaker:

maybe, is this really what success looks like for

Speaker:

me? I know I certainly have, especially

Speaker:

the am I doing this right part. We've all been

Speaker:

fed this narrative of what successful woman should

Speaker:

be, you know, the whole lean in,

Speaker:

have it all, climb the corporate ladder thing. But guess

Speaker:

what? That narrative is old news.

Speaker:

It's time to to rip it up and write our

Speaker:

own. As women over 50, we've lived

Speaker:

through diverse experiences, we've overcome

Speaker:

challenges, and developed a deeper understanding of

Speaker:

what truly matters in life.

Speaker:

Success for us might mean finding

Speaker:

a sense of purpose, nurturing

Speaker:

meaningful relationships, making a positive

Speaker:

impact on our communities, or just

Speaker:

simply living with authenticity and joy.

Speaker:

Not long ago, I had a moment of reflection where

Speaker:

I realized that some of the goals that I had set for

Speaker:

myself in my younger years no longer resonated

Speaker:

with who I am today. Well, that's

Speaker:

because I've Grace. I've evolved,

Speaker:

and my priorities have shifted. But it

Speaker:

was a powerful moment of a, understanding

Speaker:

that success is not a and size fits all

Speaker:

concept. It's unique to each of us, and it

Speaker:

evolves over time. Now I know I

Speaker:

said it's time to rewrite the rules, but what

Speaker:

are these rules of success that I'm talking about?

Speaker:

Well, society has this funny way of telling women what

Speaker:

they should value, a fulfilling career,

Speaker:

a perfect family, a flawless appearance.

Speaker:

Does that sound familiar? And while there's

Speaker:

absolutely nothing wrong with any of these things because

Speaker:

I value those things, but they can be pretty

Speaker:

suffocating when they're the only options

Speaker:

that are on the table. And here's the kicker.

Speaker:

These rules aren't just outdated. They're often

Speaker:

flat out limiting. They a us

Speaker:

in, making us feel like we have to fit

Speaker:

this cookie cutter mold to be considered successful.

Speaker:

Again, this is not a and

Speaker:

size fits all thing. So

Speaker:

why bother rewriting these

Speaker:

rules? Because when we

Speaker:

redefine success on our own terms, magic

Speaker:

happens. We start living lives that are

Speaker:

authentic, fulfilling, and truly a

Speaker:

with who we are. And guess what? When we

Speaker:

rise, we lift others up too.

Speaker:

So how do we actually rewrite these

Speaker:

rules? Of, of course, rewriting

Speaker:

the rules isn't easy. It takes courage.

Speaker:

It takes resilience and a strong

Speaker:

support system. It

Speaker:

also starts with some serious self reflection.

Speaker:

Let's explore how to redefine success and and to

Speaker:

better reflect your personal values and goals.

Speaker:

Now, as I've said, success doesn't have to

Speaker:

be about climbing the corporate ladder

Speaker:

or amassing wealth. It can be about

Speaker:

achieving personal happiness, making a difference in

Speaker:

your community, or pursuing,

Speaker:

a passion project. I recently

Speaker:

spoke with several women who have redefined success for

Speaker:

themselves. One of them left her

Speaker:

high powered corporate job to start a nonprofit

Speaker:

supporting young entrepreneurs. Her measure

Speaker:

of success is now based on the impact that

Speaker:

she's had making rather than on her job

Speaker:

title or her salary. I've also

Speaker:

received messages from listeners who shared their

Speaker:

journeys of redefining

Speaker:

success. A listener, Martina, found success in

Speaker:

her sixties by finally pursuing

Speaker:

her lifelong dream of writing a book. And, you know, I

Speaker:

know a lot of women our age who are writing books these days. I

Speaker:

think that's absolutely great. At the end

Speaker:

of the day, it's not about fitting into a mold,

Speaker:

but about creating a life that feels

Speaker:

fulfilling to you. Here

Speaker:

are 3 practical steps to redefine

Speaker:

success. And, you know, if you listen to me, y'all know I

Speaker:

love to give steps. The first one is

Speaker:

set personal goals. Take some time

Speaker:

to reflect on what success

Speaker:

means to you. Set goals that

Speaker:

that are meaningful and aligned with your values.

Speaker:

This could be anything from learning a new

Speaker:

skill to dedicating more time with your

Speaker:

family. Next would be to

Speaker:

embrace the idea of lifelong learning,

Speaker:

whether it's taking a class, pick picking up

Speaker:

a a new hobby, or simply staying

Speaker:

curious. Learning keeps our minds

Speaker:

engaged, and it opens new opportunities for success.

Speaker:

And then thirdly, networking and mentorship.

Speaker:

Connect with others who who share your interest and

Speaker:

your values. Building a supportive network and

Speaker:

provide a and encouragement as you

Speaker:

pursue your redefined version of

Speaker:

success. Now

Speaker:

let's talk quickly about some mindset

Speaker:

shifts that can help on this journey.

Speaker:

The first would be to embrace a growth mindset,

Speaker:

which is the belief that you can develop

Speaker:

your abilities through dedication and hard

Speaker:

work. This mindset, it

Speaker:

encourages you to see challenges as opportunities to

Speaker:

grow rather than obstacles.

Speaker:

And then next would be embracing failure.

Speaker:

Understand that failure isn't

Speaker:

the end a a part of the learning process. Now

Speaker:

trust me. I know that the

Speaker:

idea makes you say, no

Speaker:

one wants to fail. But think of it like this.

Speaker:

Each setback is an opportunity to

Speaker:

to learn and grow. Let me repeat that

Speaker:

for myself and those in the back of the room who didn't

Speaker:

hear it the first time. Each setback is an

Speaker:

opportunity to learn and grow.

Speaker:

Many successful people, including Oprah Winfrey and JK

Speaker:

Rowling, Grace numerous rejections and failures

Speaker:

before ever achieving their goals. Embrace

Speaker:

failure as a stepping stone rather than a

Speaker:

setback. Success is

Speaker:

a personally or and deeply, I'm sorry, a deeply

Speaker:

personal concept. It's not about

Speaker:

meeting societal expectations.

Speaker:

Success is a deeply personal concept. It's

Speaker:

not about meeting societal expectations,

Speaker:

but about creating a life that feels true and fulfilling

Speaker:

to you. Reflect on your

Speaker:

own definition of success, set meaningful

Speaker:

goals, and embrace the journey with a

Speaker:

growth mindset. At the end of the day,

Speaker:

empowering ourselves to rewrite the rules of success

Speaker:

is about more than just personal fulfillment. It's

Speaker:

about reclaiming our power as

Speaker:

women over 50. We have spent

Speaker:

decades navigating a world that often

Speaker:

undervalues and underestimates us. But

Speaker:

now it's time. It's our time to shine,

Speaker:

to to use our voices, our experiences, and

Speaker:

our collective wisdom to create an inclusive,

Speaker:

empowering narrative of what it means to be a

Speaker:

successful woman. So this week,

Speaker:

I encourage you to take a step towards redefining

Speaker:

success for yourself, Whether it's

Speaker:

setting a new goal, learning something new,

Speaker:

or reaching out to a mentor, take that step

Speaker:

and and start rewriting your own rules.

Speaker:

So there you have it. Today, we've challenged the

Speaker:

status quo, questioning those old school rules,

Speaker:

and started crafting a a new narrative

Speaker:

for success, one that's uniquely

Speaker:

ours. And, hey, I I

Speaker:

own terms. Until next time, keep

Speaker:

rewriting those rules because you

are the author of your own success story.
