4 Steps to better self care

Yoga Time
Renewal of body and mind

The older I get the more I realize the need for and the value of “me time.”  Lately I’ve been super busy and super stressed.  The busier I got the less I made time for myself.  Long work days, stressing over things I couldn’t control, missed or unhealthy meals, and no workouts!  There was nothing good about that combination.  Last week I finally made time for my hot yoga class and had an aha moment.  I quickly recognized the need to make myself a priority.  I needed ME time.  Have you found yourself in a similar situation where you know you need time out but don’t know where you will find the time.  Below are the reasons that convinced me to stop and take notice.  Maybe they will help you too.

Why You Need Me Time

Help Yourself; Help Others

On airplanes they tell you to place the oxygen mask on yourself first then take care of others. Similarly,  you will better help others when rested, focused and recharged. We are no good to anyone when we are exhausted.

You Sleep BetterSpend a little extra time under the covers

When you go non-stop so does your mind, even when you lay your head on the pillow.  Allowing some time for you, allows you time to decompress during the day for better sleep at night

Good Bye Bad Mood!

During my “non-me” time, I was in a bad mood most of the time.   I snapped at my poor husband many times.  But at the end of the day this was because I wasn’t taking care of me.  No matter how strong we are, we all need to take a break and do something fun.  It could be as simple as working out, shopping, getting your nails done or whatever makes you unwind.

It’s Just Better For Youwhat we eat affects how we feel

Taking time for yourself allows you to breathe, clear your head and de-stress.  And less stress leads to better overall health.

So, I’m sure you are saying “where am I supposed to find the time to do this me time thing?”  As someone told me, we all have the same 24 hours in a day.  It can’t hurt to take a few minutes out of those hours for you.   What do you do to ensure you get “me time?”  I would love to know.
